Total and Reverse
Shoulder Replacement

Arthritis occurs when the cushion (cartilage) in the SHOULDER joint is Worn out with age causing bone to rub on bone. In Total Shoulder Replacement, this worn out cushion is replaced with high grade plastic and metal as shown in the following photos.

If along with arthritis, your rotator cuff is also damaged, this is effectively treated with REVERSE SHOULDER REPLACEMENT in which the placement of the ball and the saucer in the joint is reversed. This enables the patient to reach back of the head with hand to perform daily jobs which was not possible before surgery.

Reverse shoulder replacement is also performed to treat fracture of upper part of humerus when it is into too many pieces that it cannot be repaired by putting together.
